Kashan's association with weaving dates back hundreds of years to ate Safavid era, when the city becane the center of Persion silk rug and carpet making. Although production faltered in the 18th Century, by the end of the 19th Century weaving was re-introduced to the city by merchants hoping to emulate the success of the newly established Tabriz workshops. The resultying designs, showing a mastery of culvlinear pattern are now recognized as typical of Kashan weaving.
